National Living and Minimum Wage

The National Living and Minimum Wage increased on 1 April 2024 for around 3 million workers in the UK.
The new rates apply to everyone and are different based on your age, including whether you are in an apprenticeship role.
It doesn’t matter if you’re in a full time, part time or temporary role, your employer should pay you the correct hourly rate for your age. It’s the law.
The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to by law.
These rates apply from 1 April 2024.
| Rate | |
| Aged 21 and above (national living wage rate) | £11.44 |
| Aged 18 to 20 inclusive | £8.60 |
| Aged under 18 (but above compulsory school leaving age) | £6.40 |
| Apprentices aged under 19 | £6.40 |
| Apprentices aged 19 and over, but in the first year of their apprenticeship | £6.40 |
Use the National Minimum Wage calculator to check if you’re paying a worker the National Minimum Wage or if you owe them payments from past years.
